VFW granted extended premises for outdoor smoking area after final inspection

The St. Mary's County Alcohol Beverage Board approved a request from the Veterans of Foreign Wars to extend its licensed premises to include an outdoor smoking area, contingent on the layout provided to the board.

Gerald Yerdon (spelled in the record) described a fenced, roofed outdoor area adjacent to the building. Staff confirmed a final inspection of the addition two days earlier. Board members discussed whether objects could be passed over the fence to the parking lot and whether fencing height and fire-code access were adequate; the applicant said access to the smoking area would require passage through the main building and glass door.

After clarifying sight lines and egress, a motion to approve the extension of premises was made, seconded and carried by voice vote.
