The Town of Danvers Select Board voted unanimously Tuesday to accept the town'9s budget goals and objectives for fiscal 2026.

The vote provides high-level direction to department heads ahead of the formal budget process. Rodney DiJoco, the town manager, told the board the document had been amended after prior discussion and had been reviewed by the school committee and the library board of trustees.

The goals and objectives package is intended to guide department requests when the formal budget is prepared. DiJoco said the document includes edits the board made during last month'9s discussion and that departments will present detailed budget requests during the budget hearings.

Board members discussed staffing briefly while reviewing the goals. One member raised concern about police staffing and asked whether the board could add specific posts now; the chair replied such specifics should come from the police chief through his department budget. The board reiterated that the town manager'9s incoming hire will receive a set of specific objectives once appointed.

The board passed the motion, "Motion to accept the budget goals and objectives as they are provided," by voice vote; the clerk announced the tally as 4-0 in favor.

The town manager said the full draft town budget will be posted online March 1 and that department heads would present recent grant receipts and departmental requests during scheduled hearings. DiJoco also noted the document had been through the school committee and the library trustees and was presented to the select board for final acceptance.

The board did not adopt line-item budget allocations at Tuesday'9s meeting; those decisions will come during the formal budget hearings and subsequent votes.
