The South Dakota House of Representatives unanimously enough to adopt House Concurrent Resolution 6,005, a nonbinding measure aimed at supporting teachers who remove cellphones to limit classroom distractions.
Representative Linda Rice, the measure’s sponsor, told the chamber the resolution was intended as a tool for teachers and schools. “This resolution is to help our teachers and our schools,” Rice said, adding that she chose a resolution rather than a law to preserve local control.
After floor remarks the clerk reported ayes 55, nays 12, excused 1 and the speaker declared HCR 6,005 adopted. The resolution does not impose new state law or penalties; it expresses the House’s support for classroom management authority and local decisions by school districts.
