The Oklahoma State Senate presented a formal citation recognizing the Elgin Owls high school football team and head coach Trevor Wyatt for winning the 2024 OSSAA Class 4A state championship and the academic state championship, the chamber's clerk read during a Senate session.
The citation, moved by Senator Dusty Devers and read by the clerk, memorialized the Owls’ undefeated 14-0 season that culminated in a Dec. 14 victory at Chad Richardson Stadium. The citation said the team finished with a team GPA of 3.584 and that the Owls won by an average margin of 40.7 points per game. The citation also named Trevor Wyatt the 2024 All-State coach of the year.
Senator Dusty Devers, who moved the citation, praised the team’s turnaround and long-term community support. “They were the dominant team in the state this year,” Devers said on the Senate floor. The citation directs that the Senate’s congratulations be presented to the team and coach.
Members of the Elgin team were present in the south gallery when the citation was read. The clerk completed the reading of the citation on the Senate floor and the citation was ordered presented to the team.
