The Kankakee City License and Franchise Committee voted to send two liquor-license requests to the full City Council for approval during its Feb. 6 meeting.

The requests covered a change of ownership for the business referenced as Slims at 597 South Washington Avenue and a new-license/transfer request for the business formerly known as Flanagan's Irish Pub at the Majestic Center, 150 North Schuyler Avenue, which would operate under the name The Hideout. Both establishments currently hold Class A liquor licenses.

The committee discussed the Slims transfer, confirming the corporation name will remain the same while the named licensee would change to Ricky Jones from the current owner, Justin Coy. Committee members asked about operational history at the location; the committee record shows no complaints raised at the meeting about either the location or the involved owners. Committee members then moved to forward the request to full council.

For the Flanagan's/Hideout request, the committee noted the item had been discussed with the ward representatives (Alderman Prude and Alderman Malone Marshall) and that both were reported to be in favor of the transfer. A motion to forward that request to the full City Council was made and seconded.

Procedural votes followed. On the Slims change-of-ownership request the record shows Alderman O'Brien and Alderman Navarrez voted yes; Alderman Marzak recorded an abstention; Alderman Jones and Alderman Johnson voted yes. The committee chair said the item will be recommended to the full council.

On the Flanagan's/Hideout transfer the committee again voted to recommend the item to full council; the roll call in the committee record shows Alderman O'Brien, Alderman Navarrez and Alderman Alvarez voting yes, Alderman Jones recorded an abstention, and Alderman Johnson voting yes.

Earlier in the meeting the committee also approved minutes from its November meetings by roll call.

The committee’s recommendations send the two license matters to the next full City Council agenda for final action.
