The Iowa House of Representatives adopted House Resolution 6 on a voice vote Tuesday, designating February 2025 as Career and Technical Education Month.
Representative Vandorenzo Scott moved adoption of the resolution after a member read its text, which said, in part, that career and technical education “offers students the opportunity to gain the academic, technical, and employability skills necessary” for career pathways. "We move the adoption of House Resolution 6," the member said. The presiding officer announced, "The ayes do have it. The resolution is passed."
The resolution cites the Association for Career and Technical Education’s designation of February 2025 and highlights programs that link secondary and postsecondary education and lead to industry-recognized credentials. No roll-call vote was recorded; the chamber approved the measure by voice vote.
Separately, the clerk read a series of House files for first reading. Several bills were introduced and referred to standing committees for consideration. Among those introduced were House File 320 (relating to TRI Act rights), House File 321 (relating to trespass penalties), House File 323 (relating to enclosed structures on private docks and insurance), House File 324 (relating to domestic abuse threat reporting and related fees), House File 326 (establishing a veterans recovery pilot program for reimbursement of expenses related to hyperbaric oxygen treatment), House File 327 (relating to advancement of registered nurse practitioners and county recorder fees/land recorder information system management), House File 329 (relating to distribution of water exempt from taxation and civil penalties), and House File 330 (from the committee on commerce, relating to insurance coverage for autism spectrum disorder treatment). Each bill received its first reading and was assigned to the committee noted when read aloud.
The House also handled nonlegislative announcements between items: Representative Wilburn invited members to visit Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in the Legislative Dining Room; Representative Dunwell announced Child Care Coalition Day at the Capitol with an event scheduled 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the Legislative Dining Room; and Representative Latham introduced South Hamilton FFA officers and their advisor, Carlton Ness, for recognition.
With no further business, Representative Stone moved that the House adjourn until Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 8:30 a.m.; the motion carried by voice vote and the chamber adjourned.
