The Revere Commission on Disabilities voted to send a proposal from Anne Marie Fiore to the Revere Parks and Recreation Department seeking a partnership with the Community Music Center of Boston to deliver music therapy workshops and subsequent therapy sessions for residents with disabilities.
Chair Ralph DeChico introduced the item as a proposal to partner with Revere Parks and Recreation and the Community Music Center of Boston. Commission member Anne Marie Fiore summarized the plan, saying the initial offering would be three one-hour music therapy workshops in March, followed by recurring therapy sessions in April if turnout supports continuing. Fiore told the commission the sessions would most likely be held on weekdays after school up to about 5 to 6 p.m.
Fiore also said the Community Music Center could provide hybrid or fully remote delivery. "For the workshops, if we wanted, they could definitely do hybrid. They could also ... remote, through Zoom," she said. Commissioners discussed hybrid delivery as a way to increase participation during high respiratory illness season and to reach residents who cannot attend in person. Chair DeChico suggested coordinating with Revere TV to stream sessions to broaden access.
After discussion, a motion to send the proposal to Revere Parks and Recreation for partnership and scheduling was approved by roll call. The recorded approvals included Vice Chair Pauline Perna, Mario Gomez, Jason Barone, Ellie Vargas, Anne Marie Fiore and Chair Ralph DeChico.
The proposal notes that timing and facility availability will depend on the Revere Parks and Recreation Department’s schedule and that a capacity limit will apply; the commission asked staff to confirm available space and times with Parks and Rec before final scheduling. No budget or funding source was specified during the discussion.
Commissioners identified next steps as: (1) send the formal proposal on commission letterhead to Revere Parks and Recreation, (2) confirm space and time availability for after-school hours, and (3) explore livestreaming options with Revere TV and the commission’s Zoom link.
