Scappoose mayor proclaims January 2025 as Blood Donor Month

Mayor Joseph A. Backus read a proclamation during the Jan. 6 meeting declaring January 2025 as Blood Donor Month.

The proclamation cited a national designation and noted that Bloodworks Northwest supplies about 95% of the Pacific Northwest’s blood and that January historically is a period of critical blood shortages. Mayor Backus encouraged residents to donate and said Bloodworks Northwest would run a pop-up donation event at Scappoose City Hall the following day; donors were advised to make appointments through the Bloodworks Northwest scheduling channels.

There was no council vote on the proclamation—mayoral proclamations are ceremonial. The mayor urged residents to consider donating to support local hospitals and patients.
