The Somerville Finance Committee on Feb. 11 heard a package of Community Preservation Act (CPA) recommendations and placed multiple appropriations on the table to recommend approval. Director Ignacio reviewed the CPA process and explained the city’s year-end budget cleanups that move undesignated balances into reserves.
The items read into the record and placed for recommendation included:
- $365,000 from the CPA fund to the Somerville Community Land Trust for restoration of 12 Pleasant Ave.
- $1,475,428 from the CPA Affordable Housing Reserve to the Affordable Housing Trust (the city’s 50% annual CPA housing allocation).
- $172,000 from CPA Historic Preservation Reserve to Elizabeth Peabody House for exterior restoration at 277 Broadway.
- $200,000 from CPA Open Space Reserve for water fountain installation at Nunziato Park.
- $300,000 from CPA to the Open Space Land Acquisition Fund.
- $114,259 from CPA Historic Preservation Reserve to the Somerville Museum for artifact preservation.
- $18,500 from CPA Historic Preservation Reserve for a condition assessment of the veteran cemetery and other historic monuments.
Ignacio told the committee these projects had been reviewed and recommended by the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) through the standard public process. He noted two projects remained under review by the committee at the time, but the slate before finance had CPC recommendation. The finance committee placed items 12 through 19 on the table to recommend approval.
