City staff and commissioners at the Pleasanton Civic Arts Commission meeting on Jan. 20 reviewed a civic arts project status report that highlighted upcoming performances, a public art unveiling and recent City Council action on a mural.
Staff noted that the Pleasanton Youth Theatre Company will open a production titled Finding Nemo Kids on Jan. 18 and that multiple bands are scheduled at the Firehouse Arts Center through January and February. Staff invited commissioners to an unveiling of a Wizard of Oz bookbench at the Pleasanton Library set for 11 a.m. on a coming Saturday; the bench was donated by Dorothy and Roland Brodersen and the unveiling will include opening remarks, story time and arts-and-crafts activities for families. Staff also described a cultural celebration in January at the Pleasanton Senior Center that will incorporate performances and hands-on activities, with the event scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m.
Commissioners discussed outreach and marketing for these events. Staff said promotion is being handled through city social channels, department newsletters, local media releases, posters at the library and outreach to community partner organizations and performers. Several commissioners asked for a ready-to-use graphic (JPEG or other social asset) accompanying staff emails so commissioners can post event information easily.
On public art, staff reported that the City Council previously approved acceptance and installation of a Rotary mural; staff said the project is approved and staff will work with the Civic Arts Commission on remaining logistics and next steps. No installation dates or funding specifics were presented at the Jan. 20 meeting.
Commissioners were given the status report for January and February and invited to attend the listed community events.
