The Belton Independent School District Board of Trustees on Feb. 13, 2025 approved an order setting the trustee election for Saturday, May 3, 2025, and voted to enter a joint election agreement with the City of Belton to share polling locations.
Dr. Golden, a district staff member, told trustees the action was required under the Election Code and the board's local policy. "In accordance with Election Code 3.005 and board policy BBB Local, the board must approve an order of election and set the election date," Dr. Golden said, noting the election day is May 3, 2025 and identifying Feb. 14, 2025 as the deadline referenced in the meeting materials.
The nut of the meeting was procedural: trustees took the formal steps the district needs to hold the election and to coordinate polling locations with the City of Belton. Dr. Golden said the city provided a joint election agreement "to allow the joint election to take place in a common election polling place," and requested board approval of that agreement.
Trustees voted unanimously, 7-0, to set the election date and approve the order of election. On the joint election agreement, trustees again voted 7-0 to approve the agreement with the City of Belton. During discussion a trustee asked where the joint polling location would be; Dr. Golden identified the Harris Center as a site referenced in the board materials. When asked about early voting locations, district staff indicated the city would host early voting sites; specific early-voting sites beyond the Harris Center were not clearly specified in the district's meeting remarks.
The board opened the special meeting at 5:00 p.m. and adjourned at 5:03 p.m.
