Several grant-related items were reviewed in the briefing, including a memorandum of understanding to fund two attorney positions in the District Attorney’s (DA) office, an IDD services grant renewal, and a grant agreement related to Bombardier and the City of Wichita.
DA positions: Staff described a grant MOU among KBI, the DA’s office and the U.S. Attorney that would pay for two attorneys who would be federally connected but operate out of the DA’s office. Tom Stultz and other county staff said the positions are grant-funded and would end if the grant is not renewed; commissioners asked staff to confirm the DA’s statement that the positions are solely tied to the grant. Staff said they would email commissioners the DA’s clarification.
IDD services: The county will receive a renewal grant from the Kansas Department on Aging and Disability for intellectual/developmental disability (IDD) services, totaling almost $3.5 million. Staff said the renewal provides continuing critical services locally.
Bombardier agreement: Commissioners were briefed on a resolution authorizing a grant agreement among the City of Wichita and Bombardier that, in staff’s description, recognizes Bombardier’s community investments (capital and jobs) and would allow the county to remove an old forgivable loan from 2011 from its books.
Ending: Staff flagged the DA positions as tied to grant funding and agreed to follow up with the DA’s office for written confirmation. The IDD renewal and Bombardier agreement were presented as consent/regular agenda items for formal action.
