Reed Hansen, the governor’s nominee for reappointment to the Treasurer’s Investment Advisory Board, appeared before the Senate State Affairs Committee to introduce himself and discuss his experience.
Hansen told the committee he has lived in Boise for decades and described his business background, family ties to Idaho and his interest in continuing service on the advisory board. “I have a wife and six kids and 25 grandkids, so we're invested in Idaho,” Hansen said. He said serving on the board was “eye opening” and that he has been “very pleased to be on the treasurer’s investment advisory board.”
Committee members asked Hansen how recent market volatility and changing interest rates affected the board’s work. Hansen replied the advisory board’s role is chiefly oversight of state finance staff and that Idaho’s returns have compared favorably to other states. “Idaho consistently has been in the top 25 percentile of effectiveness of government agencies in the country ... on the return on invested capital,” he said.
No confirmation vote occurred during the hearing; the committee chair said the panel will vote on forwarding Hansen’s nomination to the full Senate at a future meeting.
Hansen’s appearance focused on his qualifications and the oversight role of the advisory board; committee members did not identify any outstanding objections at the conclusion of the exchange.
