Town of Southborough Library Director Ryan told trustees on Feb. 19 that he has compiled example employment contracts and planned language for a director contract and expects to have a draft for trustees by April.
Ryan said he is still learning the process and recommended the trustees consider designating one trustee to serve as the representative to confer with labor counsel and to review a draft contract on behalf of the board. “I think part of this was I was thinking about how to…have a trustee representative, be that Marguerite or be that another one of you, to just kind of vote on that and then have that individual trustee talk to labor counsel and get feedback on the contract draft,” he said.
A trustee volunteered but Ryan emphasized that the decision to designate a representative was the board’s and that he should not be part of that trustee selection or deliberation. Ryan also said some drafts include professional development language and that he would bring those items forward for trustee consideration.
Next steps: Ryan plans to produce a draft contract by April and trustees will decide whether to designate a representative to confer with labor counsel on contract language before the whole board reviews it.
