District staff on Feb. 1 outlined a draft of the Unionville‑Chadds Ford SD comprehensive plan — a three-year, Pennsylvania Department of Education compliance document driven by the PA Future Ready Index — and said the planning committee recommended four priority areas: institutionalizing MTSS, increasing math proficiency (including Keystone Algebra 1), professional development around research-based instruction and tracking subgroup performance for special education and economically disadvantaged students.
Dr. Hoffman, who led the presentation, said the comprehensive plan process convenes a cross-section of stakeholders — including YMCA representatives, teachers, administrators and board members — to review the state’s Future Ready PA Index and local data such as STAR and the district achievement report. "The committee takes a look at all this data and has some discussion around what are you noticing? What are some of the strengths in the data...and where are areas that you have more questions about that we may wanna move in a direction of improvement for the next three years?" Hoffman said.
Staff reported specific draft targets under MTSS tracking: a proposed 10% reduction in students reading below the 50th percentile and a 10% increase in students reading above the 75th percentile, using STAR as the local progress measure. For math, staff said the plan will aim to continue progress on district math goals and monitor Keystone Algebra 1 outcomes; special education and economically disadvantaged subgroups were identified as growing populations that require focused interventions.
Hoffman described additional areas for district consideration that did not become state-required goals but were recommended for annual goal setting: expanding extracurriculars and assessing their academic impact, social-emotional learning professional development, career-pathway exposure (trades and military), data integrity, and parent training on major initiatives. Staff said the March board meeting will include a final comprehensive-plan vote and that the draft will be posted publicly for community review before submission to PDE.
