Unionville‑Chadds Ford SD staff on Feb. 1 provided an update on the rollout of full‑day kindergarten, reporting early registration of 135 students and describing next steps for staffing, curriculum and parent outreach.
Administrators said the district opened registration earlier than in prior years and that by about an hour before the meeting registration totaled 135 students across the district’s four elementary schools. They cautioned that registrations typically continue through May and June and that a late summer trickle is common, but said early numbers put the district in a favorable position for planning.
Staff said they will post anticipated job openings in March to support full‑day kindergarten and some special‑area coverage, and that the required staffing fits within the parameters of the original proposal previously approved by the board. Professional development on "active playful learning" is planned in the coming weeks, and special‑area teachers (art, music, physical education) are revising curricula to move from half‑year to full‑year coverage for kindergarten.
Administrators described parent outreach measures: a recorded information session, FAQs and a dedicated full‑day kindergarten web page with registration links. The district also plans a Ready Set Kindergarten welcome event for May 19 to give incoming students and parents a chance to visit buildings and classrooms. Staff emphasized they will meet individually with teachers assigned to kindergarten roles to confirm placements and to provide certainty ahead of broader reclassification votes expected in March.
