The Salem City Council voted unanimously on Feb. 13 to reappoint City Clerk Eileen Simons, extending her term to June 28, 2027. The Committee of the Whole had reviewed Simons’s record and recommended reappointment by roll call.
Council President Prozniewski (acting as committee chair) said the Committee of the Whole heard from the clerk and discussed the office’s modernization and transparency efforts, including upgrades to the city website and document access. Committee members praised Simons’s work on technology and public access during a meeting before the council session.
Multiple councilors offered thanks on the floor. Councilor Varela said he looked forward to the reappointment; Councilor Hapworth and Councilor Stott thanked the clerk and her staff for their efforts. Councilor Watzenfeld praised Simons’s engagement with the public and with council members. A roll call recorded 10 yeas, none opposed, and one member absent.
