Parks staff told PROS members they have met with Larimer County, the Metropolitan Planning Organization and Fort Collins to pursue trail connections and regional open-space collaboration.
Staff described progress on potential trail alignments that could connect Wellington trails to Fort Collins and the North Front Range regional trail network. Officials said partners are exploring at least two primary alignment options—one on the east side of town and one on the west side—with an additional alternate farther west that could ultimately link to broader regional trails.
Staff also reported conversations with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) and regional open-space managers about revegetation, stewardship and coordination on parcels that border or include CPW-managed habitat. The town seeks collaborative approaches for smaller open-space properties, trail routing, and revegetation of non-irrigated areas.
Town staff said these regional conversations have yielded active partnership interest and that Wellington will continue to participate in master-plan and trail-level planning with county and city partners as alignment analysis and funding conversations proceed. The discussions are intended to inform the town’s parks and trails elements in the forthcoming master plan.
