Board authorizes contracts for registered behavior technicians, funded through IDEA, not to exceed $160,000

During the Fiscal Support Services portion of the Feb. 20 meeting, district special education staff said rising significant-behavior incidents among students with disabilities require contracted supports. The board authorized the superintendent to issue contracts to provide registered behavior technicians (RBTs) under existing RFP-awarded providers, with funding from IDEA and a total not to exceed $160,000.

Presenters said the district currently contracts with six registered behavior technicians and that the requested funds will pay for those contracted positions and for BCBA oversight at approximately 10% of the hours. The district identified three existing providers under contract: Stepping Stone Group, Sunbelt Staff and Positive Behavior Support (as named in the presentation).

The motion to authorize the contract increase was moved and seconded during the committee and the item passed and was forwarded to the consent agenda for final adoption.
