A longtime resident asked the Campton Hills board on Feb. 18 to support Echo Valley Farm’s nomination to the Kane County historic register.
Jerry Johnson said his grandparents bought the property in 1922 and described the farmhouse as an intact example of an upright-and-wing house with outbuildings. Johnson said the house dates no earlier than the late 1870s, underwent a documented remodeling in 1914, and later saw additions such as a 1934 dormer. He said his goal is to restore the house’s appearance to its 1940s form and noted a conservation easement held by the township will keep the site as open space.
Johnson asked trustees for a favorable letter to the county; he said Kane County will consider the nomination at a public hearing on Feb. 26. No trustees asked questions and the board took no formal vote on the request during the public comment period.
Ending
Johnson said restoration work has already begun and requested village support in the form of a letter for the county hearing; village staff did not record a commitment in the Feb. 18 meeting minutes.
