President Amy Jo Wittenberg announced March 13 that the Village of Indian Head Park will recommend Alternative 1 — the baseline sidewalk option — for Wolf Road to the Cook County Department of Highways and Transportation.
The recommendation follows a multiyear public process that began April 2022 and included two Corridor Advisory Committee (CAC) meetings, multiple public surveys and mapping exercises, and outreach managed via wolfroadstudy.com. Wittenberg said the decision rests on the project’s smaller footprint and residents’ stated preferences, and that the new west‑side sidewalk is intended to improve pedestrian safety for people walking to Highlands District 106, Pleasantdale District 107, and nearby parks.
Wittenberg summarized the outreach and engagement record in the board meeting. She said the CAC included more than 25 stakeholders representing school districts, park districts, residents, businesses and public‑safety agencies and that the study team received hundreds of pieces of input from residents. As presented to the board, engagement statistics include a 2023 public survey (about 320 respondents), a 2023 interactive mapping exercise (81 respondents), an alternatives mapping exercise (142 respondents), 3,200 mailed postcards, about 2,280 website visitors and nearly 4,500 page views. The public‑relations firm retained for outreach was RM Chin and engineering work was performed by Strand Engineering; Wittenberg said compiled materials are available at wolfroadstudy.com.
Wittenberg told trustees the village’s recommendation reflects public feedback and the desire to minimize impacts on adjacent properties while improving pedestrian access. She said the village remains interested in longer‑term enhancements for safety, stormwater management and aesthetics and will seek support from Cook County as the design phase continues.
No vote on the recommendation was recorded during the March 13 meeting; Wittenberg said the next public meeting for a more detailed design (CAC meeting No. 3 / public meeting No. 3) is expected in spring 2026.
The village’s selection of Alternative 1 represents a recommendation only; final approval of design work and construction remains with Cook County and any funding or schedule commitments were not reported as finalized at this meeting.
