The Newcastle Community Activities Commission on March 12 discussed plans for the summer concert series and fireworks, reporting band recommendations and a tightened sponsorship timeline.
Commissioner Van Adda said the fireworks/concert subcommittee "have Boogie Boulevard booked for Newcastle days, and we have the Pioneer Squares confirmed for August 6," and described an effort to diversify musical genres with salsa, Afro-Cuban jazz, bluegrass/strings and an island-reggae act under consideration.
Sponsorships and timeline
Amy and subcommittee members described a sponsorship package similar to last year with platinum, gold, silver and bronze levels but with more "on-site activation" opportunities and add-on "VIP experiences" to test new sponsorship options. Amy said the city will move earlier this year on sponsorship marketing and materials, aiming to have website updates completed by March and sponsor sign-ups finalized in early May to permit printing and banner placement.
Other logistics
The commission also discussed separating the car show as a stand-alone sponsorship opportunity and using sponsorships to create pre-concert activities and themed food-truck pairings. Commissioners suggested experimenting with pre-concert activities and promo reels once bands are finalized.
Why it matters
Commissioners said earlier sponsor commitments will allow better marketing and production for the summer concert series and fireworks. Amy asked commissioners for business leads and urged outreach so potential sponsors make timely decisions.
Ending
No contract awards or sponsorship agreements were approved during the meeting; staff will continue negotiations with bands and sponsors and intends to return with finalized contracts and sponsorship lists when available.
