Flathead County approves letter supporting Lakeside Water and Sewer District DEQ permit

The Flathead County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a letter of support for the Lakeside County Water and Sewer District’s Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) groundwater pollution control system permit application at its Jan. 2 meeting.

County Administrator Pete Mellon told commissioners the county has partnered with the Lakeside district on treating about 30,000 gallons of effluent produced in the valley and that the DEQ public-comment period for the permit application has been extended to Feb. 10. Mellon said Lakeside requested the letter of support “due to our partnership and, of course, solving a problem.”

A motion to authorize the signature of the letter of support was moved and seconded and then approved by voice vote. The record shows the board authorized signature of the letter of support to accompany the district’s permanent permit application to the DEQ.
