At a meeting that reconvened after an executive session, the Town of Needham board reported it approved six property tax abatements, denied four abatement applications, approved two tax deferrals, denied one exemption application for statutory reasons, and voted to remove two utility liens from property tax bills, staff member Dave Davidson said.
"The board did action on 10 applications today," Dave Davidson said, counting six abatements and four denials. The board approved abatements for 20 Seventh Spring Road; 16 Lowell Drive; 200 South Street; 762 Webster Street; 309 Mark Tree Road; and 16 Severy Road. The board denied abatement applications for 14 Highgate Street; 11 Reddington Road; 70 2 Mark Tree Road; and 6 15 Honeywell Street.
Davidson said the board also approved two deferral applications (addresses not specified in the report) and denied one exemption application "due to statutory reasons." The transcript identifies 38 Brookside as denied.
The board considered a separate item that had been missed before executive session: a request from the treasurer to remove two utility liens placed on properties. "The board voted to an approval of this will remove those charges from the property tax bills and it will be, committed to the treasurer, which will be added back to the actual utility bills," Davidson said. The properties identified for lien removal were 34 Harris Street and 103 Wayne Road.
Board members moved and seconded the lien-removal motion; the meeting record shows an affirmative vote and the chair declared the motion passed. The transcript does not include a roll-call vote tally for the abatements, denials or the deferral and exemption items.
The board noted the next meeting is scheduled for next Thursday at 09:30 and that a taxpayer appointment is on that agenda. The meeting was then adjourned.
