Summary
A Senate Education committee amended Senate Bill 22-13 to reduce a pilot appropriation from $500,000 to $300,000, then voted 6-0 to give the bill a "do pass" recommendation as amended.
A Senate Education committee on Oct. 12 amended Senate Bill 22-13 to reduce the pilot appropriation to $300,000 and then voted 6-0 to give the bill a "do pass" recommendation as newly amended.
The amendment replaces the language in the committee's 02/2002 version with the newly proposed text and changes a $500,000 pilot appropriation to $300,000. Representative Schreiberbeck proposed accepting the amendment with the $300,000 change, and Senator Axman seconded the amendment. Chair Lim and all committee members present voted in favor.
The committee discussed how $300,000 could be allocated; one member said the amount could support six schools at $50,000 each. Committee members also clarified that the bill's section 7 appropriation remains $1,500,000 and was not reduced to $1,200,000 in the amendment.
After the amendment carried, Senator Axman moved that the committee give Senate Bill 22-13 a "do pass" recommendation as newly amended. The motion passed on a 6-0 vote. Voting recorded in the committee were Chair Lim (aye), Senator Shibley (aye), Senator Axman (aye), Representative Schreiberbeck (aye), Representative Kami (aye) and Representative Richter (aye).
The committee concluded its business and adjourned. The bill will proceed from committee as amended to the next steps in the legislative process.
