Summary
The Hopkinton Town Council approved a special-event permit for the Ashway Sportsman's Club to hold Huck Finn Day in June and waived all associated field fees. The event is free to the public and serves as a youth fishing derby and family day.
The Hopkinton Town Council approved a special-event permit April 21 for the Ashway Sportsman's Club to hold its annual Huck Finn Day at Crandall Field and waived all field fees.
Applicant Steven Burke, representing the Ashway Sportsman's Club, described the event as a free, family-oriented fishing derby with games, bounce houses and staggered children’s fishing heats. Burke told the council the club submitted the required application materials and asked the council to waive the fee for the field because the event is free to the public and charitable in nature.
A councilor moved to approve the permit and waive all associated fees. The motion was seconded and passed on a recorded roll call: James (yes); Davis (yes); Roy (yes); Burns (yes).
Burke said the event draws about 200 children some years and features multiple prize drawings so that most participants receive awards. The town’s approval includes the permit dates and hours as stated on the application.
No public opposition was recorded in the minutes.
