A Senate member told a meeting of the House of Representatives that the Senate "hasn't moved off of our position of not wanting to include that in the state park and rec budget" when members discussed $4,500,000 in matching grants for outdoor recreation projects.
The discussion took place after the chair reported that decisions reached at the panel's first meeting about the Peace Garden were complete. Members then turned to the proposed $4.5 million for local matching grants for outdoor recreation, which the chair characterized as largely focused at the local level.
A senator summarized the chamber's stance, saying, "we really haven't changed our minds on that position at all...we still haven't moved off of our position of not wanting to include that in the state park and rec budget." The senator also said the group was "good with" agreements reached about the state park itself and praised progress on that piece while maintaining opposition to the grants' placement in the parks budget.
No formal vote was recorded on the $4.5 million matching-grants proposal during the session. The chair closed discussion and said members would adjourn and reconvene another day to review additional information before any decision was made.
The meeting record indicates the Peace Garden matter was treated as resolved at this meeting and that further work on the matching-grants item will continue at a later date.
