The Michigan Senate adopted Senate Resolution 33 commemorating Ronald Olson upon his retirement as chief of parks and recreation at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
Senate Resolution 33, offered on the floor by Senator Cherry and described in the resolution text, recognizes Olson’s two decades of service to the Department of Natural Resources and cites accomplishments recorded in the resolution: development and partnership work on Flint State Park with the Mott Foundation, the Menominee River State Recreation Area (a cross-border collaborative park management effort with Wisconsin), oversight of Belle Isle Park revitalization, and work on the Iron Bell Trail that spans from Detroit to the western Upper Peninsula. The resolution also notes awards received during Olson’s tenure, including a gold medal award from the National Recreation and Park Association.
The Senate had suspended the rules to allow immediate consideration of the resolution. Senator Cherry urged colleagues to support the measure and congratulated Olson, who was in the gallery as the guest of Senator Cherry and Senator Bumstead. The chair then put the question on adoption; the resolution was adopted. There were no amendments pending and no recorded opposition during floor consideration.
The resolution is ceremonial and commemorative in nature; the floor text honored Olson’s service and wished him success in future endeavors.
