The Town of Southborough Trails Committee said April 24 that it will not take on planning for the BeeWalt (BWALT) Trail this year because its current Peninsula boardwalk and related projects remain incomplete.

"We never said we weren't support in support of," Trails Committee chair Kat McKee said in response to an article she said claimed Southborough opposed the BeeWalt Trail. McKee said the committee has been contacted by a Friends of Westborough group that is forming to work on the BeeWalt corridor and that the committee offered supportive but limited engagement.

McKee told members the committee is effectively at capacity while it finishes the Peninsula project and related tasks; she asked that outreach be cordial and that the town not add the BeeWalt planning to the committee's work plan for the current year.

The committee asked staff to note the inquiry in the minutes and to signal willingness to collaborate at a later date once current projects are complete.
