The Waynesville R‑VI Board of Education on April 21 recognized student and staff achievements across academics, career and technical education, athletics and student leadership.
Highlights - MSBA scholarship: Braden (regional winner, Region 8) was presented a Missouri School Boards Association scholarship; MSBA representative Brett Manning congratulated the student and said he is a finalist for the statewide award.
- Waynesville Career Center Breaking Traditions awards: Tristan Borner (Health Science) and Marissa Esquivel (Welding and Manufacturing) were recognized as the Region 6 winners for the Breaking Traditions program, which honors nontraditional career and technical education students.
- Student council and FCCLA: Waynesville Middle School Student Council earned the Missouri Association of Student Councils Honor Council Gold Award; Waynesville High School earned the Honor Council Silver Award. FCCLA students Nikia Kirkman (Region 5 historian) and Faith Boer (FCCLA state vice president of public relations) were recognized along with multiple state competition medalists.
- Athletics and activities: Three girls placed at the state wrestling tournament (third, fifth and sixth place finishes were announced for named students). The district also reported exemplary ratings for choir and band participants at district and state festivals, multiple signings for collegiate athletics, and the cheer and dance teams' competitive achievements.
- Tiger Buddies and inclusion: The board recognized Tiger Buddies, a unified partner program affiliated with Special Olympics Missouri, and named student mentors and sponsors for their work promoting inclusion.
- Staff recognitions: The board honored classified and certified spotlights from Freedom Elementary (including a paraprofessional and a special‑education teacher), the Freedom Elementary third grade collaborative team, a transportation employee of the month (Sandra Wampler) and staff selected for statewide professional learning cohorts.
The recognitions occupied the bulk of the early meeting and were presented by district administrators, program sponsors and an MSBA representative.
