Paul Burtis, president and CEO of Zions Bank, announced at the Utah League of Cities and Towns annual conference in Saint George that Zions Bank and Intermountain Health have established the Your Land, Your Plan Community Impact Fund at the Community Foundation of Utah to continue grant support for the league’s land-use program.
Burtis said the fund will sponsor Your Land, Your Plan community engagement activities and make new grant opportunities available to all cities and towns across Utah. “The first round of new grant opportunities through the Your Land, Your Plan Community Impact Fund at the Community Foundation of Utah will be announced at the league’s annual conference in the fall,” Burtis said.
The program, launched in partnership with Zions Bank, Intermountain Health and the Utah League of Cities and Towns, helps local governments consider ways to unlock the value of real estate assets to address social drivers of health. Burtis summarized those drivers as “conditions in which people live, work, and play that significantly affect health outcomes,” and listed examples included in the presentation: housing quality, access to fresh food and education, and availability of living-wage jobs.
Burtis said the partnership dates to February 2019 and that Intermountain Health provided a $500,000 grant in 2022 to support the initial Your Land, Your Plan launch. He described the new fund as a vehicle to continue sponsoring the program’s community engagement work and future grants. “Zions has 95 branches across Utah,” Burtis added, noting the bank’s long presence in the state and its interest in local partnerships.
Burtis thanked Saint George Mayor Michelle Randall for hosting the conference and acknowledged “Mayor Walker” for her leadership in welcoming attendees. He directed interested communities to the Zions Bank booth at the conference for more information and reiterated the fund’s intention to expand grant access statewide.
The announcement did not specify the amount or timeline for grant awards beyond the plan to announce the first round in the fall, nor did it provide criteria for eligibility or selection. Those details were presented as forthcoming at the league conference and through Zions Bank materials.
