UDOT staff introduced a public project‑prioritization tool and reviewed a slate of near‑term capacity projects across the Wasatch Front.
Tiffany Polcock, UDOT program development director, described the prioritization website and nomination process used to assemble Phase 1 ranked project lists for the Utah Transportation Commission. She said the nomination window had closed and Transportation Commission staff would consider the ranked lists in November and December, noting the tool is informational for the commission’s funding deliberations.
Region directors then summarized major capacity projects: Region 2 Director Robert Stewart highlighted I‑215 reconstruction work (recently completed segments and follow‑on touch up), the Redwood Road 6200 South continuous‑flow interchange (CFI) project, Bangerter Highway interchange grade separations, I‑215 frontage‑road improvements and the SR‑36/auxiliary lane work in Tooele. Stewart noted some projects are design‑build and others are phased and that budgets and phasing remain under review.
Region 1 Program Manager Brett Slater reviewed projects that include the I‑15 reconstruction EIS (spanning Region 1 and 2), the Shepherd Lane bidding cycle (re‑advertised after high bids), 5600 South/Whiting I‑15 interchange (progressive design–build), SR‑108 widening and the US‑89 reconstruction (adding shoulders and safety improvements). He said some projects will require re‑evaluations of prior environmental work and will be phased to match funding.
Josh Vanjurer (UDOT trails and transit group) explained the Utah Trail Network (UTN) planning concept and said UDOT intends to use the same planning-to‑construction workflow used for roadway projects to deliver major trail segments, coordinating central office planning with regions and MPOs.
Ending: UDOT staff said prioritized project lists and the online tool will inform Transportation Commission decisions on which projects proceed to funding, and region staff will return to Transcom with design and construction updates as projects advance.
