Benicia Unified principals presented single plans for student achievement for each school site and the board approved the plans as the steering documents for the next school year.
District director Dr. Beatson explained the plans align with the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) and California Dashboard expectations and that sites had jointly developed the plans with site councils and staff. Principals highlighted a single focus area and a high‑leverage strategy from each school: examples included increased fidelity to ELA curriculum and targeted interventions at Robert Semple, a problem‑of‑practice focus on purposeful academic conversations and goal setting in math at another elementary site, expanded multi‑tiered systems of supports (MTSS) and restorative practices for social‑emotional learning, and equity work including elevating student voice and family engagement at Joe Henderson Elementary.
Secondary presentations described Benicia High School’s work to define essential standards, develop common assessments and pilot targeted interventions during the school’s access period; Liberty High noted continued focus on growth mindset, graduation rates and universal design for learning. Principals described use of NWEA and local data to form small‑group instruction and the use of programs such as Imagine Math for extra practice. The board then moved to approve the individual school plans; a trustee motion to approve the plans passed by voice vote.
