Kelly Pearson, the newly appointed commissioner of agriculture for the state of Utah, introduced herself and pledged departmental support for the state’s producers during a brief address.
Pearson said she has served six years as deputy commissioner and told attendees the department’s programs are available to help farmers and ranchers who face drought and rising input costs. "We wanna help you," she said, asking producers to contact the Department with ideas for improvement.
Pearson thanked Gov. Spencer J. Cox for appointing her and said she looks forward to serving a four-year term. She described Utah producers as “resilient” amid variable weather and changing commodity prices, noting the department’s staff are "very passionate" about the people they serve.
Beyond expressing gratitude and commitment, Pearson urged constituents to reach out to the Department of Agriculture with concerns or suggestions. No votes, motions, or formal actions were announced during the remarks.
The remarks were introductory and directional in nature: Pearson outlined priorities and offered departmental assistance but did not announce new programs, regulations, or budget decisions.
