The Great Barrington Select Board approved several license and permit applications Monday, including ownership and management changes for local hospitality businesses and seasonal farmer’s-market alcohol sales.
The board granted a change of stock for the all-alcohol on-premises license at Butternut (380 State Road). Attorney Jesse Cook Dubin appeared for the applicant and explained the stock transfer following the death of Jane Murdoch; the food-and-beverage operation runs under IE Inc. The board voted to close the public hearing and approved the stock transfer on a roll-call vote.
The board also approved a transfer of license and a change of manager for Blunt Entertainment Group LLC at 426 Stockbridge Road. Applicants Daniel Lassman and Daniel Baker said they plan to “continue traditions” established by the prior operator and to honor existing bookings while expanding community access. Andrew Bantkin of Christie Farms and other local business operators spoke in support of the transfer. The board approved the transfer and management change on a roll-call vote.
Separately, the Select Board approved one-day liquor and entertainment permits, including event licenses for the Mason Library W. E. B. Du Bois sculpture unveiling (later amended to 2 p.m.–4 p.m., subject to staff conditions), a Haley Performing Arts Center gala (July 13, 4 p.m.–11 p.m.), and a series of Mason Library poetry‑series one‑day liquor licenses. Farm-winery farmer’s‑market licenses were authorized for Berkshire Cider Project and Samascott Orchards for Church Street market Saturdays from May 10 through Nov. 15, 2025, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Why it matters: The decisions preserve continuity for local hospitality venues and clear the way for seasonal vendors at the downtown farmers market. Several approvals carried the condition that applicants coordinate with town staff and police for large events.
Details and conditions: The Blunt Entertainment applicants said they would maintain bookings and increase community-oriented programming. The board approved the Mason Library event license with a condition that staff coordinate logistics such as trash control, crowd management and emergency access; the applicant estimated up to 500 attendees and agreed to continue planning with town staff.
Outcome: All the above actions were approved by voice or roll-call votes; approvals of multi-vendor seasonal farm-winery sales and one‑day licenses were unanimous. Where staff coordination was required, approvals were granted subject to those staff conditions.
