Platte County on May 5 approved a request for bids for Phase 2 of improvements at Michael Gunn Park at Platte Meadows, a county parks project north of Park Hill South High School.

Daniel Erickson, director of Platte County Parks and Recreation, described Phase 1 as activating roughly 20 acres with parking and a one-mile loop trail. Phase 2, he said, is intended to bring more users to the park and will include added parking, a playground, a shelter house, restrooms and additional site grading. Erickson said the work is a major investment funded from the county’s updated parks tax.

Bids are due in the county clerk’s office in June (bids due in June at 10 a.m., per staff). The commission approved the request for bids by a 3-0 vote; staff recommended moving forward to solicit competitive bids for construction.

The project timeline, bid details and contractor selection criteria were not discussed in detail at the meeting; Erickson limited his remarks to the scope of Phase 2 and the solicitation schedule.
