Platte County held the second of three statutorily required public hearings on May 5 to amend the county traffic ordinance governing speed limits, stop intersections and parking restrictions.
Bob Hine, director of public works, told the commission the hearing was a routine update to reflect newly installed speed-limit signs, stop signs and no-parking designations. Hine said the purpose of the hearing was to give the public and commissioners an opportunity to speak in opposition to any proposed changes.
No members of the public spoke during the hearing, and no commissioners offered substantive comments. The chair closed the hearing at 10:16 a.m. and staff recommended the commission move the item to the third and final hearing on May 19. A subsequent motion on May 5 approved amendments to the traffic schedules by a 3-0 vote to proceed with necessary steps toward adoption; the commission did not discuss the ordinance language in detail at this meeting.
The public works director advised that the hearing is part of a three-step process required by statute; the commission did not receive any oral opposition at this session.
