RSU 60 trustees opened part of their meeting with athletics and extracurricular recognitions and then moved through multiple personnel items.
Athletics and extracurricular honors: Coaches and volunteer leaders described successful seasons: the boys basketball program posted an 18-3 record and back-to-back regional finals appearances; wrestling capped a season with a regional title and multiple individual state placers, and the Rocket League esports team reported state titles and a long unbeaten record with nationals upcoming. Staff also announced the district’s entry and win in the Maine Farm-to-School Cook-Off, where students used local ingredients to create recipes now appearing on school menus.
Personnel actions: The board approved moving first-year probationary teachers to probationary 2 and advancing probationary 2 teachers to continuing contract (motions were made and approved by voice vote). The board nominated two interns—Ashley Baker (math) and Blake Baldock (English), both completing master's degrees at the University of New Hampshire—for teaching positions; nominations were seconded and approved. The board also accepted several resignations from classroom teachers and approved other hires as listed on the agenda.
Why it matters: Awards recognize student achievement and community support for athletics and new programs like esports; teacher promotions and hires shape staffing for next school year. The Farm-to-School recipes will be used in breakfast/lunch menus at district schools, staff said.
Details: Presenters identified volunteer and coaching contributions and listed team accomplishments and individual honors. The Farm-to-School team described a USDA pancake-bake breakfast and a local-fish taco lunch that are now on menus at the middle school and high school. The board voted on the personnel motions by voice; the transcript records motions, seconds and approvals without roll-call tallies.
Next steps: Approved hires will be processed and resignations posted to the personnel record. The Farm-to-School meal items will be added to school menus in coming weeks.
