Naomi Labadi, the county’s board administrator for board appointments, told the Broward Housing Council that the council has a nomination seat on the Homeless Continuum of Care (HCOC) and that the previous representative, Carol Hatton, is no longer serving.
Labadi said the council “nominates a representative of the housing council to serve on the Homeless Continuum of Care” and that she would provide details about the board’s purpose, meeting schedule and responsibilities in follow-up materials so council members can consider nominees.
During public comment, Luis Nicolas Aguilar, who said he works for Housing Options Solutions and Support (the division that facilitates the Homeless Continuum of Care), confirmed meeting logistics. Aguilar said the HCOC meets monthly on the third Wednesday and that the PONG (Performance, Outcomes, Needs and Gaps) subcommittee, which addresses data requests, meets the Tuesday before the HCOC meeting. He also said HCOC and its subcommittee meetings are posted on the county’s public meetings (Sunshine) website and encouraged council members to use PONG for data requests.
Labadi and staff agreed to send the vacancy and board details to council members and to return to the group with additional information at a future meeting so the Housing Council can consider a nomination.
Key details:
- Vacancy: Housing Council’s nominated seat on the Homeless Continuum of Care (HCOC); previous representative Carol Hatton has left the position.
- HCOC schedule: meets monthly on the third Wednesday; subcommittee PONG meets the Tuesday before the monthly HCOC meeting and handles data requests.
- Next steps: Labadi will distribute board and meeting details to the Housing Council; staff offered to provide more complete information at the next meeting so the council can nominate a replacement.
No formal nomination or vote to fill the vacancy occurred at this meeting.
