The Pacific Grove Unified School District Board approved several Measure‑funded facility contracts May 15 that will be executed over the summer construction window, the board was told.

Approved projects include: a liquid‑applied roofing replacement at Robert Down (McDonough Roofing), playground and swing‑set replacements at Robert Down (Gorley Construction and Miracle Play Systems) and building envelope upgrades including gutter work at Pacific Grove Middle School (Assonio Construction). The work is tied to Measure D/Measure A bond series and planned summer construction schedules; the district expects to release the final bond series in the fall to fund additional Measure work.

Director of Facilities John Anderson briefed the board that the roofing work completes the main‑building roofing system at the elementary site and that playground procurement included child‑centered design steps: each bidder supplied storyboards and students were invited to help choose the final play structures. Anderson said some projects came in over estimates but that the facilities office negotiated prices and that bids met procurement and code requirements.

Board approval votes were unanimous (5–0) for the listed contracts. Directors said the upgrades will be scheduled for the district’s standard summer construction period to minimize classroom disruption; the district also plans to coordinate ADA and site safety upgrades alongside the primary work.

The board directed facilities staff to provide a short construction sequence and outage plan for each campus before summer work begins and to post safety and traffic notices for families.
