The Dallas City Council on Oct. 22 approved a large set of appointments to city boards and commissions, including individual and full-council appointments and chair nominations.
Nominations read into the record included appointees and chair nominations to bodies such as the Arts and Culture Advisory Commission, City Plan and Zoning Commission, Community Development Commission, Environmental Commission, Community Police Oversight Board, Dallas Housing Finance Corporation board, Municipal Library Board, Park and Recreation Board, and many reinvestment-zone boards. The city secretary read a long list of nominees and noted updated district corrections where necessary.
Council moved and approved the appointments by roll call for the individual items and then voted separately on chair appointments; the vice-chair position for the City Plan and Zoning Commission was decided by paper ballot, with Daryl Herbert elected vice chair.
Councilmember Minsley raised a procedural question about including race and gender data in appointment materials; the city secretary and city attorney indicated that demographic data would be removed from appointment distributions going forward.
The council approved the nominations; the city secretary will proceed to notify nominees and file necessary appointment paperwork.
