Council members reported that McMahon and its subcontractors have agreed to fund construction of two pickleball courts in town and that work could start in July.
The update matters because the project will provide new recreational courts without the town having to allocate capital funding, council members said.
“We met a while back about pickleball courts... and the way it looks now, they will pick up rents, everything. So they'll be complete courts. We won't have to use any funding or anything like that,” a council member said. The council member said the contractor hoped to begin work in July.
Separately, members addressed resident questions about a removed merry-go-round at the town playground. A council member said the merry-go-round had been removed for safety/maintenance reasons but that replacing it would be expensive; whether it will be repaired or replaced was not resolved at the meeting. Staff said they would follow up with park maintenance to clarify the status.
Discussion only: the council did not vote or adopt funding measures; the members relayed information about private funding and asked staff to follow up on playground equipment status. The clerk’s office and public-works staff were listed as contacts for further information.
