District administrators briefed the Cohoes City School District Board of Education on May 21 on a newly drafted job description for a districtwide school safety leader and the timeline for posting and hiring the position.

The administrator presenting said the duties are focused on coordination, training and consistency across schools and that day‑to‑day supervisory responsibility for safety staff would remain at the building level. “This person will report out at our District wide safety committee meetings and will meet monthly with the principals, but it is still over oversight at the building,” the administrator said.

Board members asked for clarifications about where the position would be located and how it would interact with existing roles. Administrators identified the high school as the likely primary location and said the safety leader would serve as a single point of contact for districtwide staffing needs and onboarding to avoid calling multiple buildings. The timeline discussed was for posting and interviews to take place soon, with a target start date of July 1; staff said they would confirm whether an active civil‑service eligible list exists for the position.

The board did not take formal action at the meeting; trustees asked staff to post the description and return with confirmation on the civil‑service list and an implementation plan.
