The Wenatchee City Council voted to approve Resolution No. 2020-515 endorsing Proposition No. 1 — a sales-and-use tax measure for transportation improvements — and encouraged voters to vote yes at the primary and special election on Aug. 5, 2025.
Council members said the measure is meant to preserve pavement and fix sidewalks before conditions worsen. "I take raising taxes pretty seriously... but this is the most equitable and smallest financial burden with the greatest improvement," said Council Member Travis Hornby, who moved the resolution. Council Member Eurer seconded the motion. Several councilors said staff presentations and data showing the condition of the city’s streets informed their decision.
The resolution was presented to the council without a staff presentation; councilors discussed the focus on pavement preservation and how the measure’s proceeds could be used for broader street and infrastructure work. Mayor Mike Poyer opened the floor for comment and council discussion before the vote.
After discussion, the council voted in favor. The motion carried.
Councilors said they would point constituents to the city website for the staff presentations and condition photos used to frame the measure, and reiterated that the proposed measure gives voters the choice to approve the funding.
No formal tally by name was recorded in the meeting minutes beyond the motion carrying.
