Committee members reported they are downloading an app to measure trees and begin mapping Windcrest's tree canopy; the commission will leave the item as a standing agenda entry for future updates.
Monica Biotti, Parks and Recreation commissioner, told the commission the Mayoral Tree Preservation Committee is beginning a canopy mapping effort and plans to use a mobile app to capture tree measurements and meaningful data for Windcrest's tree canopy inventory.
"We're gonna download the app. We're gonna figure out how to accurately use it and measure the tree, to put meaningful data into the system," Biotti said, describing the committee's next steps. She said a meeting to calibrate the app and procedures has not yet been scheduled but will be set soon and asked the commission to keep the item as a standing agenda entry for ongoing updates.
Commissioners welcomed the quick startup and asked staff to maintain the item on future agendas so the commission can track progress, review canopy data and consider follow-up actions based on the survey results.
