Wichita staff on May 30 previewed a budget modification to implement recommendations from a prior property and evidence audit, including fire-suppression and sprinkler work, elevator improvements and upgrades to heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems to better protect evidence.

City Manager said the modification would use previously approved funds and listed mechanical and electrical improvements as part of the package. The item was presented as part of the police department's consent or non-controversial capital items and will return with budget specifics for council approval.

No final appropriation or contract awards were made at the agenda-review session; staff said details will be provided in the council report and agenda packet when the item is presented for action.
