The Green Bay Parks and Recreation Commission voted to accept a donation from the Green Bay Blue Ribbons to purchase and install batting cages at Joanne's Baseball Stadium.
Director (Parks Department) told the commission the Blue Ribbons have about $21,000 available to buy materials for batting cages and requested the city accept the donation and have park crews install the cages. Staff said the model proposed is the same one installed at East River Optimist Park last year and that, after installation, the cages would become city-owned and maintained, with the donor group assisting with repairs if needed.
Commissioners asked about the proposed location and whether picnic tables would need to be moved. Staff said there should still be room for picnic tables and that tables could be sited under shade trees to avoid disturbance. Alder Eck moved approval; Alder Presley seconded. The motion passed with all in favor.
The commission noted the cages would be available to the Blue Ribbons and occasionally used for high‑school games. The vote to accept the donation was a recommendation to the Common Council, which will consider final approval at a subsequent meeting.
