The Knox County Board of Education approved first readings on a bundle of district policies during its June 5 meeting, covering insurance management, nepotism, employee background checks, retirement, leave provisions and athletics.

The board approved first readings of policy E200 (insurance management), G162 (nepotism), G212 (employee background checks), G410 (retirement), G461 (sick and bereavement leave), G462 (personal and professional leave), G467 (paid parental leave), I171 (interscholastic athletics) and I330 (senior classification first reading was also on the agenda and addressed separately).

Most items passed without discussion. Motions to approve were regularly moved by Miss Christie and seconded by Mister Triplett on several items; recorded procedure on the consent and first-reading items indicated each motion carried.

The approvals move the policies forward from first reading; the board will consider subsequent readings or final adoption in later meetings per board procedure.
