The Jackson County Legislature on May 23 read an ordinance (No. 5985) to amend the county’s 2025 amended budget but voted to hold further action and scheduled three special meetings to consider the measure.

The clerk read language describing Ordinance 5985 as an amendment to the 2025 amended budget adopted Dec. 31, 2024. The legislature’s budget committee reported that it had not met and asked that the ordinance be held for further consideration. The chair instructed staff to circulate additional information to legislators later the same day.

Law department staff, represented by Whitney Miller, told the body there was no report from the counselor’s office at this time. The legislature then approved a motion to schedule meetings on Wednesday, May 28; Thursday, May 29; and Friday, May 30, each at 10 a.m., to continue work on the budget. The clerk announced the roll-call result on that scheduling motion as six yes, three absent.

Members noted that the legislature was still waiting on a proposed ordinance from the county executive; the chair said staff would distribute that material when it arrived. The clerk also announced that county legislative offices would close at noon for the Memorial Day holiday and reiterated that the next regular legislative meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, in the Jackson County Legislative Courthouse.

No budget amendment ordinance was adopted at the May 23 meeting; formal consideration was deferred pending committee meetings and the executive’s submission of the ordinance text.
