Sussex County Council authorized placement of the county’s fiscal 2026 insurance package on June 10 at a not‑to‑exceed cost of $2,505,136.
Andrea Wall, accounting manager, told the council that the county’s broker, Alliant Insurance Services, and Insurance Buyers Council recommended marketing all lines of the county’s insurance program. Wall said the increase largely reflects higher insured values tied to upgrades at the South Coastal Regional wastewater facility, a new paramedic station and improvements at James Farm, not increased claim activity.
Wall said the packet included expiring costs and premiums for FY26 and details on two proposed program enhancements: expanded volunteer coverage and a crisis response program. The council voted to accept the recommendation; Councilman Riley moved and Councilmember Kornabao seconded. The motion carried on a roll call vote with all members present voting yes.
The county will proceed with insurer placement for the policy period July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, under the cost cap adopted by the council.
